Moon, directed by Kurdwin Ayud is a story with a female perspective, where an Austrian trainer goes to Dubai to work with three teenage sisters, and pretty soon she realises they are trapped.

The film is an amazing drama, a thriller and a small reportage about female conditions.

Sarah, the main character is a martial arts fighter hired by a rich Jordanian to train his teenage sisters.

Moon is directed by Iraq born Austrian film-maker Kurdwin Ayub, her script inspired perhaps by Princess Haya, wife of Dubai’s ruler Sheikh Mohammed and half-sister of the Jordanian king, who fled to London in 2019.

She plays Sarah, an Austrian fighter whose career in the cage is over. The obvious next move is to become a trainer, but Sarah’s people skills aren’t really up to it: she’s blunt and hopeless at small talk.

Then comes the offer to work for wealthy Jordanian Abdul, training his sisters. First Sarah must sign an NDA: ‘Anything you see inside the house stays inside the house’. None of the girls seem interested in training, though one says she wants to learn self defence.

Moon is a great and strange film, it’s something original and attractive in the international film industry landscape.

The performance of Florentina Holzinger & Andria Tayeh, non-professional actresses, is stunning.
